CAD-CAM dentistry

CAD-CAM dentistry is a field of dentistry and prosthetics that use CAD / CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing).

Dr. Gregorio White Cumin

Field in which SALUD DENTAL BLANCO saw a great opportunity to improve the design and creation of dental restorations, especially dental prostheses, including crowns, veneers, inlays and onlays (extracoronary), fixed bridges, dental implant restorations, removable dental prostheses or fixed and orthodontic appliances.

CAD / CAM complements previous technologies used for these purposes by any combination of increased design and creation speed; increase the convenience or simplicity of the design, creation, insertion processes. WHITE DENTAL HEALTH it now makes restorations and appliances possible that would otherwise have been unfeasible.

Thus achieving the reduction of unit costs and making possible affordable restorations and appliances that would otherwise have been prohibitively expensive.

CAD / CAM dental restorations are typically created from solid blocks of ceramic or composite resin that closely match the basic color of the restored tooth. They can also be created with digitally produced metal alloys.

After the decayed or broken areas are cleaned, our specialized team takes an image (scan) of the prepared teeth and neighboring teeth.

This image, called a digital impression, extracts the data on a computer. The proprietary software then creates a replacement part for the missing areas of the teeth, creating a virtual restoration.

This is called reverse engineering.

The software sends this virtual data to a milling machine, where the replacement part is carved out of a solid block of ceramic or composite resin.

Stains and glazes are fired to the surfaces of the ground ceramic crown or bridge to correct the otherwise monochromatic appearance of the restoration.

The restoration is then fitted in the patient's mouth and cemented or bonded in place.

As in other fields, additive manufacturing (3D printing) first entered CAD-CAM dentistry in the form of laboratory experiments, but its use is expanding; SALUD DENTAL BLANCO was one of the pioneers in Spain in using it clinically, although it has not yet become widespread in Dentistry.
